Narrative Short THE POND a Nominee in the Maverick Movie Awards

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 14, 2011)
- Award-winning narrative short film THE POND was a Nominee in the 8th Annual Maverick Movie Awards. David Morse was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of the mysterious Adam 11 character, joining a list of past winners and nominees that includes Ed Asner, Tom Berenger, Jim Broadbent and James Cromwell.

The Maverick Movie Awards was founded by moviemakers to help talented fellow moviemakers achieve the recognition they deserve by awarding movies with unique style, exceptional craft, and the power to communicate. By championing great movies, regardless of origin, genre, or budget, the goal of the Maverick Movie Awards is to re-ignite the spirit of the major film festivals and distribution pioneers by celebrating what they once valued above glitz and glamour ... simply put: great cinema.

"I'm so proud to have the film and David recognized with a Maverick nomination. His character is very fun, arcing from someone you fear to someone you love, and he was great," said the film's writer and director Dan Hannon. "My congratulations go out to all of the winning films and nominees and to the Maverick team for continuing this awesome tradition!"

THE POND is a moving and surprising story about a young woman distraught over the death of her husband, who sets about scattering his ashes in a place they had both loved and in doing so makes a discovery for which no one could ever be prepared. The richly cinematic film was shot entirely in the picturesque state of New Hampshire and represents Hannon's directorial debut.

Joining the writer/director are the recognizable onscreen talents of Alicia Witt (NBC's "Friday Night Lights," THE UPSIDE OF ANGER, MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS), David Morse (HBO's "Treme," THE HURT LOCKER, THE GREEN MILE) and Todd Rotondi (HOWL). The powerful story also attracted offscreen talents including producer Francine DiChiara, cinematographer Jendra Jarnagin and composer Justin R. Durban.

THE POND world-premiered at the 2010 Palm Springs International ShortFest and has since won the Directorial Discovery Grand Prize Award at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, recognizing outstanding achievement in a directorial debut, as well as the Best Dramatic Short Award at the New Hampshire Film Festival. The film also recently achieved Finalist status at the USA Film Festival, host to one of the oldest Academy-qualified short film competitions in the country, and received an Honorable Mention at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival.
