New Hampshire Film & Television Office presents panels at 2011 New Hampshire Film Festival

The New Hampshire Film & Television Office, in partnership with the New Hampshire Film Festival, will once again be presenting two panel discussions as part of programming at this year’s Festival, which will be held from October 13-16, 2011 in Portsmouth.

AN INDUSTRY MEET-UP W/ THE NEW HAMPSHIRE FILM & TELEVISION OFFICE
Friday, October 14, 2011
10 a.m.-noon
Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel, Portsmouth, NH

New Hampshire Film Festival attendees are invited to join in the discussion at this special edition of the Industry Meet-Up, which are presented quarterly by the New Hampshire Film & Television Office. As with the regular meet-ups, this gathering will provide filmmakers and members of the production industry with an opportunity to network with one another, with everyone having the chance to take a few minutes to introduce themselves and share information on their recent or upcoming endeavors (Yes, there is a time limit!) The meet-up will be moderated by Matthew Newton, director of the New Hampshire Film & Television Office, who will offer an update of what’s currently happening around the state. There will also be a networking session toward the end of the discussion at which attendees can make connections and talk further.

LAUNCHING A NEW HAMPSHIRE PRODUCTION COALITION
Friday, October 14, 2011
1-3 p.m.
Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel, Portsmouth, NH

The New Hampshire Film & Television Office has played an instrumental role in promoting the state for all types of media production projects, as well as supporting New Hampshire’s production industry by working to build an infrastructure from the ground up. The foundation has been poured—and now, for our industry to strengthen and expand there must be an association of professionals that can work in tandem with the Film & Television Office and continue to advocate on behalf of our filmmakers, craftspeople and ancillary support businesses. The discussion will focus on what this group should be and what goals should be met, including a film tax credit to better compete with other states for production. This panel will feature some of the founding members of what will become the New Hampshire Production Coalition and attendees will have the opportunity to be heard and get involved as the Coalition takes shape over the next few months.

Panelists:

Mark Constance - Producer/Director, a713production
Paul Durham - Chair, Entertainment, Media and Publishing Group, Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA
Debra Franchi - President, HHG Productions
Jessica Maher – Freelance Contract Administrator for Entertainment Contracts, AFTRA/SAG
Joe Maiella – VP, Sales & Global Crewing, Media Services

Moderator:

Van McLeod - Commissioner, New Hampshire Department of Cultural Resources

“There are a number of interesting things happening in film and television around the state right now, and we’re pleased to be working again with the New Hampshire Film Festival to bring information and good conversation to their attendees,” says Matthew Newton, director of the New Hampshire Film & Television Office. “Both of these programs will provide excellent networking opportunities for filmmakers visiting the Festival, and the afternoon panel in particular will be something industry professionals will not want to miss.”

Information on both programs, including panelist bios, are available on the New Hampshire Film & Television website at http://www.nh.gov/film. For information on the New Hampshire Film Festival, visit http://www.nhfilmfestival.com.

State Fair of Texas Photo of the Day: Press Day

It's that time of year again and I am here at the State Fair of Texas!  I know many of you have seen my coverage from previous years, so join me on my adventure again for the next 25 days.  This photo came from our new radio controlled race tent in the truck zone of the State Fair.  I have a feeling this is going to be a huge hit, so I wanted to give it a try before the crowds took over.  Well, I stink (My car is on the far right in the ditch, not on the track.), but that's not what makes this photo so much fun.  Sometimes, the best things in a photo are in the background and this photo makes me giggle.  You can see that Toyota Live's producer, Kenny, is really shy and doesn't have a sense of humor.

I will dish out more photos from the State Fair of Texas over the next month.  Today, the crowds descend upon us and Toyota Live begins its first show at 12:15PM.  Come on down and join us, y'all!

Portsmouth Public Media to present inaugural educational seminar Oct. 4

Portsmouth Public Media (PPMTV) presents its inaugural educational seminar Tuesday night, October 4, at the South Meetinghouse at 280 Marcy Street in Portsmouth (prior home for the Children's Museum) at 7:00pm. Led by Bill Humphreys, this "Producer's Overview" will present a broad-spectrum look at PPMTV, the purpose and process of public access television, and its web presence. A thorough explanation of PPMTV's facilities, procedures, policies, certification for equipment access, production and post-production courses, and content creation will be presented, as well as a tour of the facilities. This introductory forum will answer questions regarding content requirements, access to video and audio production equipment, the post-production process, and PPMTV programming. A one-hour session, it is recommended for anyone interested in the workings of PPMTV, what PPM has to offer the community, and how their involvement in storytelling can make a difference to Seacoast viewers.

If you have any questions about this event or Portsmouth Public Media in general, please contact Glenn Gardener at glenn.gardener@ppmtvnh.org.

Screenplay panel discussion at New Hampshire Film Festival

[From Dana Biscotti Myskowski:]

What’s Next?
Moving the Screenplay Forward into Development & Production

An NHFF Panel Discussion

Friday, October 14
4-6 pm, Location TBA

Join us for a lively panel discussion that examines the life of a screenplay. How do you move the printed pages from your computer screen to the big screen? Who helps in the successful navigation in that development? Should you do it yourself? What do you do when you’re not sure what the next step is? These and many more questions will be tackled by the five panelists.

He holds a Ph.D in dramatic literature, taught scriptwriting as Playwright-In-Residence for many years at Drew University, founded the Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, and currently runs a script consulting service (www.buzzmclaughlinscripts.com). She is in development on the feature PLOWING UP A SNAKE and she is co-producing THE POINT with Maywood Productions in June 2012. Her TV series THE PROVIDER has been optioned, and she will be writing remaining episodes and co-producing the series with colleagues at a713production and TransMedia Entertainment. She can be found at www.greenchairpictures.com and one night a week teaching screenwriting at New England College this semester.

Kevin O’Malley is this year’s Grand Prize winner of the NHFF Screenplay Competition. His Coming of Age script, Bananafish Sandwich, is a quirky, heart-felt portrayal of teen ingenuity and determination. O’Malley writes in his logline: “To get into college it used to be just good grades, two teacher recs, a kick-ass personal essay and, when all else fails, a donated building. Nick Ellis, a high school senior at Hanover High, NH, thinks a little philanthropic burglary might improve his chances – with college and maybe even the trustee’s daughter.

Parting Shots: NYC

Seriously, I don't think there could have been a better hotel room view for me.

I've moved on to location number two and while I am not home, I am happy to be parked in one place for a month. I just finished a 30-day run that involved 8 different planes.  Now, if you have followed my blog the last few years, you know exactly where I am right now.  I'll let you guess in the comments section below.  If you don't want to guess, that's okay because I am about to bombard you with images from my location. Otherwise, here are some final images of my short, but always sweet, time in NY. (I'll be back to NY in 5 weeks, so don't feel sorry for me.)

It was awesome to walk out of my hotel and see the ad on a phone booth.  If you missed the Godspell rehearsal photos, click here.

I always sneak in a trip to Magnolia Bakery.

If you have not visited Chelsea Market, make sure to add this to your list for your next visit.  The interior architecture is worth a quick tour through.

The Met Opera broadcast their opening night in Times Square. Here's a scene from Anna Bolena

So many people gathered to watch, it was inspiring to see the crowd out in full force for some real culture.

I know I've been rather secretive about what I was shooting in NY.  I signed an NDA across all social media platforms until the infomerical is launched.  However, you can see my official FB page to see who I worked with. We shot in the old Maury studios.  I figured the studios were haunted with DNA tests and lost baby daddies.

Last shot of me in NY just after I left the set.  It was a very satisfying trip.  I'm sad to leave, but happy to be returning soon....

My New York

I started the day with this view.  I knew it was going to be a GREAT day.

I walked the streets a little longer last night even though I should have been in my hotel room resting for my shoot today, but I wanted a little more time to reflect on the city I consider home.  It's no secret that I love NY, but it's been such a great journey for me:  seeing where I started in NY and where I am in NY now.  It reminds me of one of my favorite songs from Sondheim's show, Merrily We Roll Along called "Our Time".  This section of the lyric still sticks with me:

"Years from now,
We'll remember and we'll come back,
Buy the rooftop and hang a plaque:
This is where we began,
Being what we can."

These lyrics resonated with me all day as I had the wonderful opportunity to rehearse for a great project that I am shooting today, watch two longtime friends make their dreams come true with the Broadway show, Godspell, and then meet with the entertainment editor of iVillage.(I have been fortunate to do a few press junkets with them and I look forward to more!)

Now for my fellow musical theatre geeks, here are a few photos from today's incredible invited press rehearsal for Godspell.  If you would like to see some of the video footage, head to Broadway World (A prize to the first person who spots me in the video. Tell me where I am sitting in the comments below.) and be sure to read Producer Ken Davenport's blog on today's event.

Director, Daniel Goldstein, and Choreographer, Christopher Gattelli.

 The cast!

Hunter Parrish being interviewed by NBC.

Ana Maria Perez de Tagle from Hannah Montana is in the cast too.  I last interviewed her here during the Kids' Choice Awards week.

Hello! It's Stephen Schwartz.  Wow!
