Narrative Short THE POND Selected for Theatrical Debut

Award-winning narrative short film THE POND has been selected to join Shorts International's theatrical release, dubbed "ShortsHD At The Movies." The exclusive program consists of 13 shorts and will show on September 20, 21 and 22 at CGV Cinemas, located at 621 South Western Avenue in Los Angeles, California.

"This is such an amazing opportunity," beamed the film's writer and director Dan Hannon. "I can't even begin to express how excited I am to be part of this release. I'll always be grateful to the team at Shorts International for holding the film in such high regard" he added.

Shorts International is the world's leading short movie entertainment company, functioning as distributor, broadcaster and producer, and represents every genre across multiple platforms. The company's movies include past Oscar® winners and nominees, festival favorites and revered classics. Through their theatrical distribution efforts, Shorts International brings the annual theatrical release of The Oscar® Nominated Short Films to theatres across the US and Canada. The event is now a firm fixture in the release schedules and in 2011 grossed over $1.3 million at the US box office.

THE POND is a moving and surprising story about a young woman distraught over the death of her husband, who sets about scattering his ashes in a place they had both loved and in doing so makes a discovery for which no one could ever be prepared. The richly cinematic film was shot entirely in the picturesque state of New Hampshire and represents Hannon's directorial debut.

Joining the writer/director are the recognizable onscreen talents of Alicia Witt (NBC's "Friday Night Lights," THE UPSIDE OF ANGER, MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS), David Morse (HBO's "Treme," THE HURT LOCKER, THE GREEN MILE) and Todd Rotondi (HOWL). The powerful story also attracted offscreen talents including producer Francine DiChiara, cinematographer Jendra Jarnagin and composer Justin R. Durban.

THE POND world-premiered at the 2010 Palm Springs International ShortFest and has won the Directorial Discovery Grand Prize Award at the 2010 Rhode Island International Film Festival, recognizing outstanding achievement in a directorial debut, and the Best Dramatic Short Award at the 2010 New Hampshire Film Festival. The film also recently received Finalist status at the 2011 USA Film Festival, an Honorable Mention at the 2011 Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, and a 2011 Maverick Movie Award Nomination.
