Congratulations!]New Hampshire filmmakers Heidi and Thomas Tosi were selected to receive the New England Emerging Filmmakers award at the 17th Woods Hole Film Festival last week. Festival judges also honored the drama with a second award in the form of a Blu-ray or standard DVD authoring and mastering package for the film. The festival, held annually in the picturesque seaside village on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, notified the husband and wife co-producers earlier in June that their first feature film, “Dribbles” had been named an official selection.
Judges in the feature narrative division at Woods Hole included Victoria Alonso, the co-producer of the summer blockbuster “Ironman”; Carol Bidault, Program Director of DC Independent; and Susan Welsh a producer with Robbins Entertainment. The Woods Hole Film Festival is dedicated to presenting the best in independent film from emerging filmmakers and this year screened over one hundred films from around the world.
“Woods Hole is well-known as a filmmaker friendly festival,” said Heidi Tosi. “We certainly found that to be true.”
The screening of “Dribbles” featured an introduction and filmmaker Q&A session hosted by Boston-based film scholar, David Kleiler. Kleiler is a past Artistic Director of the Woods Hole Film Festival, Chairman of the Northampton Independent Film Festival, and has been creatively involved with the Nantucket Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, and others.
“What was wonderful and also sometimes amusing,” said Thomas Tosi, “was to sit down and talk with not only the audience but the people who actually selected our film for the festival.” “Heidi and I saw a ‘Dribbles’ poster featuring emotional comments from two festival selection committee members.” “We talked to one of them at a reception,” Tosi continued. “We found out that of the two people who confessed to being choked-up and teary-eyed by our film, one directed a number of stunt/action scenes in the original ‘Terminator’ movie and the other was the writer/director of the horror film, ‘The Legend of Lucy Keyes’.”
“We are very thankful that people viewed our film with open minds and open hearts,” Heidi said.
“Dribbles” was shot entirely in New Hampshire, including locations in Portsmouth, Manchester, Woodsville, and many scenes in John Stark Regional High School of Weare. The film features a cast from around New England, and was produced under a special low budget agreement with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Boston office.
