BOSTON, MA - Award-winning narrative short film THE POND returns to the big screen for its Boston premiere as an official selection of the Boston International Film Festival, taking place April 13-22. The film screens on Thursday, April 19 at 9 PM in the AMC Loews Theatres, located across from the Boston Common at 175 Tremont Street.

The Boston International Film Festival encourages and supports independent filmmakers from around the world, bringing to Boston a dazzling array of both short and feature length films from a select group of directors. The festival strives to promote understanding of diverse cultures by displaying the passions and unique vision of these filmmakers, and promises to both entertain and educate the viewers.

"I'm extremely excited to bring the film back to New England," said the film's writer and director Dan Hannon. Hannon, along with the film's stars Alicia Witt and David Morse, its producer Francine (DiChiara) Coughlin, and many others involved in the production are Massachusetts natives. "It'll be a fun homecoming," he added.

THE POND is a moving and surprising story about a young woman distraught over the death of her husband, who sets about scattering his ashes in a place they had both loved and in doing so makes a discovery for which no one could ever be prepared. The richly cinematic film was shot entirely in the picturesque state of New Hampshire and represents Hannon's directorial debut.

THE POND world-premiered at the 2010 Palm Springs International ShortFest and has won the Directorial Discovery Grand Prize Award at the 2010 Rhode Island International Film Festival, recognizing outstanding achievement in a directorial debut, and the Best Dramatic Short Award at the 2010 New Hampshire Film Festival. The film also recently received Finalist status at the 2011 USA Film Festival, an Honorable Mention at the 2011 Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, and a 2011 Maverick Movie Award Nomination.

THE POND is currently airing on ShortsHD - The Short Movie Channel, and is being distributed by Shorts International Ltd. and Shorts Entertainment Networks Inc.
