Top Rate Documentaries Coming to YOU at the University of New Hampshire, Manchester all for the cost of FREE!

The IDA TRAVELLING ROAD SHOW: Pare Lorentz Film Festival will be near you the following four Wednesdays: Oct. 7, 14, 28 and Nov. 4th at the University of New Hampshire, Manchester.

In celebration of the modern evolution of the documentary film, the International Documentary Association (IDA) presents its annual travelling Pare Lorentz Film Festival in honor of the best of recent documentary film. These are the films that inspire the best in all of us -- the films that address issues of social justice, pressing social problems, environmental or “green” themes, and appropriate use of the natural environment.

Each year, the IDA assembles 4 to 6 of its recent grant recipient winners and presents them to the public in this annual celebration of the best of documentary film. Also in the festival are some of Pare Lorentz's own documentaries. UNHM has selected seven documentaries to be screened over four Wednesdays.

WHY PARE LORENTZ?

Pare Lorentz (1905 – 1990) was an American original in the documentary format… a standard bearer in the what is known today as he critical genre known as “documentary film.” Best known for his epic films of Depression America, The Plow That Broke The Plow and The River, he is also known to many as the creator for of a wide scope of films including The Fight For Life and Nurenburg. He was also a noted film critic, a contributor to the WWII pilot training, and an anti-nuclear activist…..and amongst the first to demonstrate that outstanding films can educate and rally a nation around its history, its greatness, and its problems.

WHY IDA?

The IDA was founded in 1982 as a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of nonfiction film and video makers throughout the United States and the world; promoting the documentary form; and expanding opportunities for the production, distribution, and exhibition of documentary. The IDA is committed to continuing its efforts to increase public appreciation and demand for documentary films, videos, and television programs across all ethnic, political and socioeconomic boundaries.
