Volunteers Urged to Register Online to Build Community in the Upper Valley

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Emmy award-winning hit show on ABC Television, is coming to the Upper Valley to surprise one lucky family with a life-changing, extreme home makeover. While the name of the family and the location of the home site cannot be released until September 28, one of five nominated families in the Upper Valley will be selected.

In a press conference today, Trumbull-Nelson Construction announced that it is seeking hundreds of volunteers to build a complete new house in less than one week. A coalition of Upper Valley community service organizations is joining forces with Trumbull-Nelson to recruit and lead volunteers who will provide support services to the construction and design crews. Anne Duncan Cooley, Executive Director of the Upper Valley Housing Coalition and Julia Hadlock, Executive Director of the Upper Valley United Way expressed their organizations’ expectations for long-term benefits from this high visibility opportunity.

While Trumbull-Nelson Construction has built hundreds of homes, they have never built one in which all of the construction materials, labor, and furnishings need to be donated. “We know that this is going to be a crazy, exhausting, and rewarding experience for all us involved, but we are extremely honored to be chosen by ABC to make this dream happen,” said Trumbull-Nelson President Larry Ufford.

At the press conference Ufford, along with Project Manager Jim Odorisio, Director of Operations Ken Merrow and Marketing Director Steve Usle encouraged prospective volunteers to learn more about the opportunities to volunteer with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition by visiting the dedicated website, www.tnbuildcommunity.com. There is an online registration form for volunteers, including the option to select a preferred shift and a place to list special skills.
