Boston Casting to present indie-producing seminar Oct. 29

BOSTON CASTING PRESENTS:
‘PRODUCING THE INDEPENDENT FILM: AN INSIDER’S PERSPECTIVE’ WITH J. TODD HARRIS, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF ‘THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT’ AND ‘CROOKED ARROWS’ One Day Seminar on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Boston's Intercontinental Hotel

Boston Casting is pleased to present a one-day seminar, “Producing The Independent Film: An Insider’s Perspective” taught by veteran Hollywood independent producer J. Todd Harris, CEO of Branded Pictures Entertainment and producer of 38 films. Harris has just wrapped "Crooked Arrows", which was shot in Boston this past summer.

The seminar will be held at Boston’s Intercontinental Hotel at 510 Atlantic Avenue on Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The in-depth class offers aspiring producers, and interested writers, directors and actors, a 6-hour practical seminar on producing the independent film in 2011 and beyond. Producer of five Sundance Film Festival entries, Harris will take attendees through the steps of making a picture: selecting material, developing the screenplay, assembling the creative team, approaching talent, creating a business plan, raising financing, pre-production, production, post-production, marketing and distribution. Additionally, he will discuss strategies and realities for producing a film outside Hollywood.

Harris felt the seminar could be of particular interest to New Hampshire-based filmmakers.

"There are so many pockets of creativity in states like New Hampshire, where aspiring filmmakers simply need to understand that the film business doesn't start in Santa Monica and end in Burbank," said Harris. "More now than ever, the filmmaking process has democratized - starting with production and extending to marketing and distribution. You don't have to live in Los Angeles or New York, but you do have to know how to get in their head and speak their language."

Harris executive produced the Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated "The Kids Are All Right", produced of the critically acclaimed Sundance entry "Bottle Shock", and produced the recently released "The Family Tree" and "Miss Nobody." Harris, who teaches producing at the Los Angeles Film School, earned his BA and MBA from Stanford and is 12-year member of the Motion Picture Academy, Producers Branch.

Those interested are encouraged to prepare by putting together a 60-second pitch of a movie project, and by watching one of Harris's recent features, particularly "Bottle Shock" or "Miss Nobody" (both available on Netflix), by visiting the website (www.crookedarrows.com) and Facebook page for "Crooked Arrows" and visiting Harris’s company site www.brandedpicturesentertainment.com.
