BIGHORN to have New Hampshire premiere at NHFF

BIGHORN will have its hometown premiere at 8:00 p.m. this Thursday, October 14, at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH, at the New Hampshire Film Festival.  (There will also be an encore screening at the NHFF on Sunday, October 17, at Foobar, Portsmouth, at 4:45 p.m.)  Please check the festival website for ticket information.  We want to encourage everyone to attend the NHFF.  It's a first-class, nationally-recognized film festival with superb films, interesting panel discussions and great after-parties.  Buy a pass and support the Festival.  See you there!

We're just back from General Custer's hometown of Monroe, Michigan, where we premiered BIGHORN during their 12th Annual Custer Week.  It was an amazing, whirlwind experience.  Following a TV interview, we visited Custer's former home, now the residence of Steve Alexander, the renowned living historian who plays Custer in our film.  Mayor Robert E. Clark and the citizens of Monroe graciously hosted a filmmaker reception at the Monroe County Historical Museum among the world's foremost collection of Custer artifacts.  We then moved over to the River Raisin Centre for the Arts where the premiere of the classic Custer film "They Died With Their Boots On" starring Erroll Flynn took place in 1941.  The theater was packed with an enthusiastic crowd with many people wearing 1876 period clothing.  Steve Charpie, leader of the LA-based New Custer Brass Band who has recorded Felix Vinatieri's original music using his actual cornet, performed the national anthem followed by the screening of BIGHORN.  We were thrilled with the audience's electrified reaction to the film and could not have asked for more.  This was followed by a Q-and-A with myself and Mr. Charpie, who performed a rousing version of the 7th Cavalry's marching song "Garry Owen" that factors prominently in the film.  A second screening was added to accommodate everyone.

BIGHORN is a 15-minute, supernatural historical fantasy based on a true fact:  that General Custer's bandmaster, Felix Vinatieri -- an Italian immigrant and the great-great-grandfather of Super Bowl-winning kicker Adam Vinatieri -- was ordered to stay behind at the 7th Cavalry's Powder River camp and missed the Battle of the Little Bighorn.  The story takes place in 2002 and 1876.  The renowned Steve Alexander, recognized by the U.S. Congress as the world’s foremost Custer living historian, portrays Custer.  Native American and adopted Lakota Bill Watkinson portrays the Lakota Medicine Man.  In a first for independent film, the NFL granted permission to use footage from the 2002 Super Bowl.  BIGHORN is the latest from award-winning filmmakers Alfred Thomas Catalfo (writer/director of the internet hit “The Norman Rockwell Code” and winner of 21 major screenwriting competitions) and Glenn Gardner (producer of Cannes Film Festival Palm d’Or winner “Sniffer”).
