AfterBuzz TV: DWTS Week 2 Show Updates

I know I have been chatting with a lot of you on Twitter, so some of you know I am working in New York this week.  I will still be participating in the show though. (And what a week it was! Wow! I wouldn't miss it.)

As of right now, this is how the show will run:

Suri will be leading the show and joining her in studio: Jake DuPree, whom some of you may know from AfterBuzz TV's Vanderpump Rules show. Also in studio, Anna Trebunskaya, last seen in Season 15 of DWTS: All-Stars with Drew Lachey.

I will be joining the show live on the phone from New York.

As for Peta (See, I got her name right!) Murgatroyd and Sean Lowe, they are still up in the air. Their schedule keeps changing, so it's been a "yes" and now it's a "maybe."  The rehearsal schedule is brutal and everyone wants to compete and win.  We have to be patient, but we will get as many guests for you as possible this season.

If this news changes, I will try and update it here and on Twitter.

Thanks for all of your comments and support. I have tried to answer as many of your comments as possible this week. Let me know if I have missed you somehow.

See you tonight on AfterBuzz TV!

Watch the show here live at 9pm PT/Midnight ET.

If you missed any of my DWTS coverage from last week, you can find it here

Media Mondays

It's hard to get back into the swing of things after the holidays, but I'm doing it big.  It's going to be a busy 10 days with stops in Vegas, Chicago, LA, and Detroit.  Currently, I am in Vegas for the New Media Expo, CES, and the IAWTV Awards.  Don't forget though, I will be bringing you all of the Oscar nominations on Thursday, so make sure to stop by to see what happened and what dress I picked.

In the meantime, here were a few of my media appearances from the first week of 2013:

If you live in LA, you have probably seen me in your living rooms. I am currently the spokesperson for Kia of Cerritos, so thank you for all of the tweets, texts, and emails!  This the commercial that is running right now:

Cocktails and Conversation:  My first show of the year with Robin and Erika...and it was good one.  We talked a lot about the use of the N-word in the film Django Unchained and a little exchange Samuel L. Jackson had with a reporter friend of mine.  I come in around the 15-minute mark, listen here.

The Radio Dish:  Ahhh, we talked celebrity babies and the one bump we are going to hear about all year.  No, not the royal baby.......the Kardashian baby. Sigh.  Join me at the 18:00 mark here. (I was also sick as a dog that day...you can hear it in my voice. UGH!)

SheKnows:  My favorite articles from last week:
Website Reveals Possible Oscar Nominee--I got the exclusive on this one.  Find out the answer!
Reality Steve Sues again by The Bachelor's producers--Yep, another exclusive quote from Steve himself.
Jenny McCarthy wants you to choose her NYE kiss--This was my most popular article last week...guess you all wanted a say in her midnight kiss.

Don't forget that tonight is the first #RadioBurtt night of the year!  Listen in at 6:35pm PT/9:35pm ET at KWSS.org.

And if you happen to be at #NMX in Vegas, I will be moderating a panel on Monetization in Web Series at the Rio Hotel today at 10:30am PT.  See you there!

Hollywood Secrets: Reality Show Edition

I always love demystifying Hollywood whether it is from the "days of yore" (Guess which show that quote is from) or taking current accepted practices in the entertainment industry and revealing the truth. Today's edition of Hollywood secrets is telling you the truth about reality shows.......they aren't real.  Here are three things to think about:

1. The Kardashian House:  Yes, I try to keep this site as Kardashian-free as possible, but this fact irks me.  The house that they show in Keeping Up With The Kardashians is not even in Calabasas.  It is in Studio City on a heavily-traveled street that not only counts George Clooney as a neighbor, but it is also the exit of a well-trafficked canyon and hiking trail in LA.  This house is so recognizable, I have no idea why the producers tried to pretend that it is their home. (I know the Kardashians want privacy, but this home is SO well-known.)  In fact, they need to figure out what they are going to do for next season because the house is for sale. I hope the new owners negotiate a fat fee to pass their home off as a Kardashian home.  Below are a few photos I took on my recent hike and check out a recent real estate article about this farce.

2.  Housewives:  Let's all just admit it, most of us watch one franchise or the other.  I am a huge fan of the Beverly Hills edition because it is so close to home.  The stories that have evolved from this series are dramatic and often tragic, but they are real.  It's is sometimes hard to remember that what we are watching on camera is a person's real life.  This fact hit me on Friday when I was at the GBK Productions MTV Movie Awards gifting suite when I interviewed Taylor Armstrong who has had a tough year.  In my mind, she is always crying, breaking down, and fighting demons in her life because that is what I have watched on the show the last two seasons.  Well, it was refreshing to see her happy and full of joy during our interview.  She couldn't confirm that they were currently filming the next season, but I can confirm they are.  Let's hope her story takes a turn towards happiness:

If you want to see the Chagoury Couture dress we both wore and mentioned in this interview, click here.

3.  The Bachelor:  This is probably one of the most fake shows on TV.  I used to watch it for the cheese factor, but it is amazing to me how many people buy into this fantasy. If you don't believe me, go visit my friend, Reality Steve.  He will give you the inside scoop on the smoke and mirrors of this franchise.  I honestly think this show needs to fade away, but y'all keep watching.  Stop it!  Anyway, here's a 2010 interview with Vienna Girardi, "winner" of Jake Pavelka's season.  She debunks the fancy food and timeline of the show.  You can see her comments at the 1:14 mark:

What do you think about the "reality" of reality television and why do you keep watching The Bachelor?

My Top 3 Posts of 2011

I am a total nerd, but I've known this since elementary school.  I love analyzing numbers and seeing what is working and what isn't.  I love looking into the psychology of what makes people stop and pay attention.  That is why I love analytics for my blog.  It is fun to see what makes you come here and read my posts, whether you are a regular reader or you came through a Google search.  So, here are my Top 3 posts of 2011.  They aren't necessarily my favorites, but they are your favorites.  For my regular readers, one of the Top 3's popularity may surprise you, it sure surprised me.

Simone Harouche, one of my favorite stylists on the list.

1.  The Stylist Edition:  This article was the number one most trafficked post this year.  I compiled the list of top stylists for the celebrities from a Hollywood Reporter article.  I loved it because it gave us insight into who is consistently setting trends as a stylist for their clients (Rachel Zoe and Anne Hathaway with that amazing tuxedo at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.) and it also made me note who needs to change stylists. (e.g. Amy Adams) This is also a fun one to read because Brad Goreski made an appearance on the list at number 22 while his former mentor, Rachel Zoe, was listed at number 1.  Will that change with this awards season and the premiere of his reality show?  Only time will tell.

2.  Saturn Awards, EZ Curler, and Interviews, Oh My!:  This one was a bit of shock to me as it was just a quick "here's what I've been up to" post, but I sure covered my bases on popular internet searches:  Anna Torv from Fringe, anything related to The Bachelor, and an infomercial sensation called the EZ Curler.  Really, there is something for everyone in this post.  Enjoy the photos and video because I'm sure Google sent you here for this one.

3.  The Oscar Looks of Elizabeth Taylor:  We lost the divine Elizabeth Taylor this year, but there are stunning photographs of her that will live on and endure the test of time.  Following her death, I compiled a series of photos from some of the Academy Awards ceremonies she attended.  I will let the photos speak for themselves.

So, there you have it, the Top 3 Posts of 2011.  Did your favorites make it into the Top 3?  If not, tell me what was your favorite article from Red Carpet Closet this year?

Infomercials Update

A snapshot from my hotel TV earlier this year.

Happy Holidays!  Are you in the swing of the holiday season yet?  I am happily ensconced in LA for most of the month while I catch up on Oscar fare, friends, and my workout regime. (I plan on eating a lot this holiday season.)  I'm going to update you on a few projects that I worked on earlier this year:  The Amazing Mat and the EZ Curler. (In addition, The Rhythm Rocker continues to run almost two years later.) Yes, that means you will be seeing me on your TV screens in the middle of the night when you have insomnia.  First up, The Amazing Mat and FYI, I have one by my door and it works really well!

Next up:  EZ Curler.  This is the styling tips video, but the full infomercial will be running soon with a couple of familiar Bachelor/Bachelor Pad faces.

I will announce my Caption the Photo contest winner tomorrow, so get in those last minute entries.  It's pretty simple:  come up with a creative caption, win a prize!

Have You Heard Anything About The Kardashians This Week?

Okay, before you groan at me, I hope you check out my article over at Starpulse about this week's incessant news on the 72-day marriage.  The article is entitled:  "Breaking Up With The Kardashians:  Where Do We Draw The Line?"  I talked with reality experts who weighed in with their opinions:  everyone from a casting director to a YouTube personality to a former Bachelor star to the biggest Bachelor spoiler blogger in the industry.

I have met Kim, in fact, she styled me for the Oscars in 2007 because I bought my dress from Dash. She was alone in the store that day.  Yep, that's how simple her life was in January 2007. Things changed by the fall of that year and it is amazing to see the transformation in four short years.  She's a sweet girl who I think has been misguided by the fame and the money.  I hope this gives her an opportunity to take a step back, breathe, and reassess the world around her.

Bachelor Pad 2: Vienna Girardi

I've been notoriously critical of The Bachelor franchise, but we all know it is my own fault for even watching the manipulative, scripted (UPDATED:  One of my Bachelor pals corrected me and she would know, there is no scripting whatsoever on The Bachelor franchise.) reality show.  After spending another Monday night wasted on the couch watching Bachelor Pad 2 with the immature shenanigans of Kasey and Vienna, I was reminded of an interview I did with Vienna Girardi in September 2010 during Emmys Week.  I spoke a bit about my interview in a post I did after the event.  Hmmm, after last night's episode, I am not sure my 2010 assessment was correct.  If she hated the manipulation of The Bachelor franchise so much, why is she appearing on Bachelor Pad 2?  If it was so bad, wouldn't you stay far away from ever participating in a reality show again?  Money talks and when Mike Fleiss calls, most former Bachelor contestants say "yes".  Watch my interview with Vienna Girardi and let me know what you think:

Saturn Awards, EZ Curler, and Interviews, Oh My!

I've been a little MIA on the blog this week, but I have a few fun videos and photos to share.  The video you have been waiting for:  The Saturn Awards highlights including my questions I posed to Anna Torv backstage.  Other fun moments include my veeerrrrrryyy interesting interview with Hung's Thomas Jane and a playful moment with the Silver Surfer, Doug Jones.  Let me know what you think about the Saturn Awards red carpet and all of the colorful characters I encountered (And don't forget to enter the Caption The Photo Contest with Brandon Routh.  Winner gets an awesome Alien Invasion Kit.  I kid you not.):

Last week, I also hit the set of the EZ Curler with two ladies from The Bachelor franchise, Krisily Kennedy and Natalie Getz.  The infomercial should be hitting your flat screens soon at 2 or 3 AM soon.  (And don't tell me you don't watch infomercials.  I get recognized more for my DRTV work than anything else.  I think we are all a bunch of insomniacs.)

Finally, I was a return guest on Leon Kaplan's show on 790 KABC AM talking all about Toyota's vehicle line-up for 2012.  If you are a fan of alternative fuel vehicles, you are going to have a plethora of choices in about 6 months.  It's an exciting time for the industry and I thrilled to see the shift finally happening.  And yes, Leon likes the ladies.  He snuck in a kiss during our photo.  What a charmer!

Emmys 2010: Part 3

Hey Everyone! Today we are off to visit our last gifting suite sponsored by Reality Cares.  I will tell you that we stumbled upon an interesting mix of celebs at this venue.  Now, I left you  at the SLS Hotel in West Hollywood yesterday.  After we finished at the SLS, we ventured over to The Luxe Hotel in Beverly Hills.  This party was happening on the penthouse rooftop, it was hot, sunny, and the drinks were flowing.  I walked away from this one a little buzzed, a little sunburned, and with a nice bag of gifts.  Let's see who I ran into here:
Carolyn Hennesy of Cougar Town and General Hospital.

Now Carolyn and I go way back.  Seriously.  Back to the turn of the century "in the year 2000" (That's for all of the CoCo fans out there.), we met when my boyfriend at the time was doing a play with her at the Sacred Fools Theatre.  Carolyn is a tremendous talent and she has a career that most actors would envy.  It was fantastic to run into her again and I already warned my now ex-boyfriend that he was discussed on-camera. He has nothing to fear though, he's a nice guy.
Bob Guiney of GSN Live, Band from TV, and The Bachelor.
I am always guilty of name-dropping in interviews.  I have no shame.  I find that it makes the person your interviewing a bit more comfortable and trusting of you if you have some friends in common.  Two fellow entertainment reporters and hosts, Melissa Rowley and Jeff Rago, recently interviewed Bob Guiney for their show, In Bed With, on Mingle Media TV.  Bob is one of the nicest guys you may ever meet.  He's a great interview and he gamely answered the truth behind the hooking up with 5.5 girls (Don't believe everything Mike Fleiss tells you on 20/20.) on The Bachelor question for Jeff and Melissa.  I took the opportunity to tease him about it and he ran with it.  My kind of guy!
I look like I am going to bite Bob.  I must have been hungry.

Verne Troyer AKA Mini Me.
We were milling around the gifting suite when all of a sudden someone flashes by me in a scooter.  It was Verne Troyer!  Score!  He was posing for photos and he happily agreed to an interview.  He is tiny.  Not just tiny, but tiny, tiny.  I had to sit on my knees to interview him in his scooter. I asked him a few Emmy/TV questions.  While he revealed he didn't own a TV, he still scored points with me when he admitted that the Fonz was one of his favorite TV characters.  Seriously, who doesn't love the Fonz?
Verne Troyer with Todd Michael Krim of Reality Cares.  This gives you an idea of how tiny Verne is.
Charlie Saxton from the HBO show, Hung.
If you are an HBO fan like me, you know that Hung precedes Entourage each and every week.  So, when we ran into Charlie Saxton as we were leaving the SLS Hotel, I told him how much I loved the show.  Fast forward to the Luxe Hotel about two hours later and we run into him again.  That means it is time for an interview!  Charlie is definitely older than the high school teen he plays on Hung, but he is really cute and sweet. We talked about filming in Detroit (Ah, did you know the show was shot in Michigan?) and I gave him a tip on the best barbeque in D-town, Slows.  It may not be in the best neighborhood, but it is worth the trip.

Finally, a few photos from in and around the Reality Cares gifting suite where I somehow found my way into a photo booth. Yeah, I might have a cocktail in my hand on the job......oops!

The amazing view from atop the penthouse at The Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills.

Emmys 2010: Part 1

Oh, what a weekend!  I have a lot of photos to share with you and hopefully a few stories behind some of the interviews.  The interviews from Mingle Media TV will be posted in the next few days, but here's a head start on what happened this weekend at some of the pre-Emmys gifting suites, parties, and events. I was trying to put them all in one post, but it was too overwhelming, so here is the start of my Emmys weekend:

Reality Cares Benefit: Friday night I was at the Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive for the Love Hope & Healing Cancer Benefit.
With the band, Honor Society, who played that night.  They are cute, sweet, very Disney, and friends with the Jonas Brothers.
Max Adler from Glee.  Even though he plays a non-singing role in the show, Max revealed he was a member of show choir back in high school....sequins and all!
Patrick Gallagher of True Blood and Glee.  Is he looking at my boobs?
Guillermo Diaz from Weeds told me his favorite TV character is Mork from Mork and Mindy.  Here we are doing a little  "Nanu Nanu" on the red carpet.
Lots of web series fans will recognize Lauren Mayhew from Private High Musical.  She  couldn't remember who created her dress.  We had to do a little tag checking during the interview.
Okay, here we go.  Vienna Girardi from The Bachelor.  She was the host of the evening and I have to say, she is sweet and much prettier and softer in person.  I don't know what her career plans are in LA, but I think she got screwed with a little Mike Fleiss editing on the show.  I am glad she is away from Jake because I think he is crazy.  Yep, I said it.  Crazy.

Lots of goofing around on the red carpet with my producer, JD Piche, behind the camera.
The wardrobe rundown:
Dress by:  Born Crucial
Shoes:  Stuart Weitzman, Winter 2007 Collection
Necklace/Earrings/Floral Ring:  Roni B.
Smoky Quartz Ring: Rachel Zoe, QVC
Nails:  "Suzi Says Da!", OPI
Clutch:  Target Clearance Sale! $7.98

I will be back with more photos tomorrow and I have lots of good stories from the GBK Gifting Suite with your favorite celebs from The Office, 30 Rock, Mad Men, and Desperate Housewives.  I will also be doing an Emmys event gift bag giveaway, so come back and join me at Red Carpet Closet tomorrow!

Bad TV

Yep, I'm guilty of watching bad reality shows all summer long.  It's my guilty pleasure and I find that the busier my work life gets, the worse my television viewing gets.  I just cannot stop.  My name is Kristyn and I am a crappy TV viewer.  I am the one who keeps reality shows on the air and gets SAG (Screen Actors Guild) up in arms over the lack of work for actors. I am the one who thinks she has seen it all with the each Housewives franchise, but then hops aboard the next city.  Hello, DC!  And don't think I am not excited for the Beverly Hills franchise.  Come on, they are giving us Kelsey Grammer's ex-wife and a Hilton, all in one show!  Then, I scoff at the cheesy dates each bachelor goes on with Ali while she giggles every word out of her mouth on The Bachelorette.  It annoys me--yet I still watch.  I picked up the remote on Monday to watch The Bachelor Pad which basically is a hybrid version of MTV's The The Real World and Road Rules. Yes, we are out of our 20's, so please give us a grown-up version of debauchery in our 30's.  Thanks, ABC.  Yet, last night was a night of triumph for me as Jeff Lewis and his circus of animals and employees returned to Flipping Out on Bravo.  I love his mouthy, lazy housekeeper, Zoila, and Jeff's penchant for fast food.  I can't wait to watch him meltdown all season long over the remodel of Casa Vega in Studio City which has been dubbed the "best place to have an affair in the middle of the afternoon" because it is so dark. Dirty and scandalous things happen there and Jeff is only going to add to the drama.  Jeff Lewis makes me feel so....normal.....and boring.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I love to watch documentaries on Netflix, so I do exercise my brain from time to time.   I even joined the Mad Men band wagon because Don Draper's handsome facade intrigues me.  He will do something so kind for Peggy and then pull such a heartless move on his secretary.  It's just business, my friend.  So, I manage to get in a little quality television each week, but then I equalize the playing field with ABC Family's Make It or Break It.  Hey, I love gymnastics!  The extent of my bad television doesn't end there.  I love spoilers and the internet is ripe with them. Do you want to know who the final four are on The Bachelor Pad?  Oh yeah, I already know.  I knew who Ali picked on The Bachelorette before the finale.  Now, I don't sources at ABC, but my pal, Reality Steve does.  I honestly have no idea who this guy really is, but someone took a shine to him from the set of Mike Fleiss' shows and he gets the best scoop. ABC and Fleiss might not enjoy it, but I sure do.  I don't know why I like to find out what happens before the finale, but I also like to take a sneak peek at my Christmas gifts way before December 25th.  One of my dream interviews is Reality Steve.  He can spoil the next season of The Bachelor for me while I get another round of bad television scoop.  I wonder if he would be up for an interview?  Hey, a couch potato can dream!

I can't be the only one out there that likes cheesy TV.  Anyone?  Anyone? Who's in this with me or am I all alone in admitting my TV tastes are often lowbrow.  Tell me your favorite bad shows in the comments section or make some suggestions in quality television to help raise my IQ points.  Happy viewing!

My Tabloid Life

Okay, I'm not really leading a tabloid life, but I need to rant here for a little and some of it is my own fault.  See, I have a bit of an addiction to a little US Weekly and perhaps I have Perez Hilton bookmarked on my tool bar.  I'm part of the problem even though I now refuse to read any Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, or Palin Family articles anymore.  I'm just tired.  Give me scoop on Sandra Bullock and her cute baby or Shiloh's "Montenegro" style outfits, but save me from these famous-for-no-reason-people.  I like light and fluffy, not overexposed, talentless hacks, but lately I can't seem to avoid these paparazzi-on-speed-dial-manufactured-"stars".  Besides my willingness to buy the magazine or click on a link, I blame Alexis Neiers.  Why?  She started my tabloid month.

I was in downtown LA at the courthouse sitting on a bench one day (I'm not a criminal, just helping out someone on a case.) when I see this wild-eyed woman walk past me with a huge entourage.  Holy cow! It's that wacky, hippy dippy mom from Pretty Wild on E!.  I scour the crowd and see her daughter, Alexis Neiers, in the middle of the pack.  Ah, she's turning herself in today.  That's what you get for being part of the "Bling Ring" and breaking into Orlando Bloom's home.  (And Mazel Tov to him for getting married yesterday!)  This encounter led to a series of F-list encounters that comes full circle back to Lindsay Lohan and Alexis.

Earlier this week, I head off to the opening of SPiN Hollywood at the Mondrian.  This is a hip new ping pong bar owned by Susan Sarandon. Great, my reality show luck has turned as I see Susan, her gorgeous daughter, Eva Amurri, and a slew of ICM agents circling the VIP table.  An Oscar winner?  Score.  This is an A-list night.  Well, it WAS an A-List night until they all decided to go to dinner and the riff-raff took over.  Over in the far corner stood The Bachelor's, Vienna Girardi.  She looks much softer and prettier in person, but I just wanted to tell her that Jake Pavelka really did ping my gaydar, so she's much better off.  Then, the ultimate F-lister joins us.  Oh yeah, Michael Lohan.  He had been on every news outlet that would have him crying about how upset he was that Lindsay was jailed that day.  Waaahhh, waaaaahhhh.  Yeah, he's so upset that he HAD to attend the opening of a ping pong lounge.  Would you be out partying if your daughter was sent to jail that day?  Just saying.
Yep, that's Michael Lohan at the SPiN Hollywood party. See how upset he looks?  (Snort)  The best part is the SPiN employee's shirt:  "Balls are my business".  Awesome.

That's when we knew it was time to exit the building.  Susan's out, Michael's in, and with that, we hustled right back out onto Sunset Boulevard.  And Lindsay Lohan?  Well, she's sitting in a prison cell right next to Alexis Neiers.  Yep, Lindsay was a victim of the "Bling Ring" too.  Poetic justice or just another day in Hollywood, kids?

**UPDATE** As of Saturday, July 24th, Alexis Neiers has been released from jail.  Uh-oh, do my tabloid run-ins start all over again?  Stay tuned.......

Maxim Hot 100 Party

 Hi Everyone!
It's been a busy week preparing for my new show, The Web Files, but I am back with more red carpet archives.
Covering red carpets for parties, particularly ones like the Maxim Hot 100 Party, require a different type of red carpet dress.  Conservative is not the way to go, but I still have to look appropriate on-camera. So, I chose my Bebe kimono dress in a blue and lavender silk for the May 13, 2009 event.  Originally, the dress was bought for a night out on the town in the Big Apple to see an acquaintance, Kristin Chenoweth, perform in The Apple Tree on Broadway in 2006.  In fact, you can see the dress peeking out in the photo underneath my big winter coat.  The dress was perfect for Maxim's Hot 100 Party because it was the right length, but still showed off a bit of strategic cleavage.  I went simple with the accessories, with a choker from Express from the late 1990's, believe it or not.  The bracelet is a cubic zirconia flex bracelet from Aldo Accessories and the shoes....yes, there they are again, my Guess strappy silver sandals.  It's easy to recycle accessories and dresses even from years past. Keep things simple and classic.  It's a surefire strategy!
The night was filled with a ton of reality show veterans.  If you are a fan of Dancing with the Stars, The Kardashians, The Hills, The Bachelor or America's Next Top Model, then this was the party for you.  It was also a night of hot Maxim models dressed in itsy, bitsy pieces of cloth.  The cameramen for this event were very happy.  Trust me, lots of eye candy for the men.
Next week brings more fashion from closet with the premiere of Woody Allen's next movie, Whatever Works, the second episode of my show, The Web Files, and a shoot with Dance Channel TV.  Until next time, that's what's in my closet.

Reporting Live from Los Angeles,
Kristyn
