Endings and Beginnings......

Post-show and I am a bit puffy-eyed and weepy for our final Toyota Live photo.

If you told me in 2007 that I would still be doing the same show, Toyota Live, in 2012, I would laugh in your face.  Here I am, some 4000 shows later, and finally on the precipice of retirement.  It was a hard decision, but one that was pretty much sealed after this post.  I accomplished everything I wanted with a  show that was basically built around me and my co-host, Matt Troyer. I was having trouble balancing my work and personal obligations in LA with life on the road.  It's hard to give up a job that I really enjoyed and a job that I was incredibly grateful for, but it was time.

An old 2008 team photo with Emily and Amy.

Now Matt and I went through it all from trying to do shows with laryngitis to on-set pranks (usually involving unattended iPhones and new wallpaper.), it was never a dull moment.  We weathered through a rough economy, a massive recall and the subsequent media onslaught, and an earthquake/tsunami in Japan.  Toyota stood behind our show through each and every event.  I am not sure many people can say that about a corporation in this day and age.  I started the show with a Corolla and I end it with a Prius.  Yes, I drive a Toyota and it was a true pleasure to represent the brand on and off the stage.

This was a hard moment, our last sentence of the show:  "This is Toyota Live!"

Yesterday, we said our final farewells to the show as a team.  Matt is off to another city for another job while I still have three more days in New York to finish out the show.  I didn't expect our last show to be so emotional.  I walked onstage not expecting anything but a regular show, then reality set in. The crowd was huge, our supervisor, Simms, started the show with a moving speech, and we kicked it off with a final surprise rendition of Michael Jackson's "Beat It". (A dance I often bust out on command.)  The show was electric, but the final moment had come......"I'm Kristyn"....."I'm Matt"......and I heard the crack in the voices.  I know our last line of "This is Toyota Live" came through a flood of tears.  Even when you are ready, it's sometimes hard to say goodbye.

Backstage, the countdown continues....

I leave with a huge sense of gratitude to Toyota, Productions Plus, Mindfield Pictures, and GPJ. Thank you for an incredible opportunity, it's been such a wonderful journey with all of you. (I will be thanking you individually offline since there are so many of you!)

If you ever wanted to know what a Cobra is.....this is a Cobra.

To all of the kids who came year after year to see our shows, play our games, and win prizes:  You have no idea how much fun it was to see you each year after growing a few inches, losing a few baby teeth, and still coming up with hugs even though twelve months had passed since we last saw you.  I won't forget you.

To our TDs, Cobra and Larry: Thanks for feeding me lots of candy, teasing me unmercifully, and playing ridiculous sound effects for us.....my Justin Bieber joke will always be my favorite because secretly, I am a Belieber, not Matt.

The team last weekend with NASCAR/Joe Gibbs driver, Joey Logano.

To our Toyota Racing expert, Trackside Tina:  You are a true inspiration and you bring so much joy and enthusiasm to the team.

To my co-host, Matt Troyer:  You are the best co-host in the world, but you are an even better friend.  Thank you for the laughs, the tears, the support, and your friendship.  I will always try to break into your phone and change your wallpaper.

Thank you, Toyota Live, Goodnight!

Photos from Chicago Auto Show 2011

Here are the final photos from a jam-packed 10 days, with a 36-hour jaunt to LA, in Chicago.  We had tons of great guests on Toyota Live, we gave away a 2011 Prius, we announced the official name of the Prius Family (Prii), and I even had time to host the Entune live broadcast on the West Coast.  Now, I begin an exciting and hectic week surrounding the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.  Never mind that I got home at 3AM, I am ready to hit the red carpet!

"This is Toyota Live!"

Up on the jumbo LED wall at the Chicago Auto Show!

And the winner is.....Prii!  When you see two hybrid vehicles, you say, "I just saw two Prii."

There's two of me!

2010 in Review: February

I had to go back and look at what I did in the month of February.  I always have a gig in Chicago, but the rest of the month was kind of a blur.  However, I have a lot of fun photos that really capture my month:

1.  We were in Chicago and away from all of our significant others on Valentine's Day, but this was a really fun champagne and chocolate-covered strawberry filled evening with my pals, Melody Freeman and Ted Napolitano.

2.  I finally got behind that door and found out what Club 33 was all about.  It is a must for any Disney geek and it is my most popular post of 2010.  What's behind that door?  Unicorns, rainbows, and all the magic of Disney.

3.  Chicago is the most enthusiastic city we hit with Toyota Live each year.  We even gave away a 2010 Prius live onstage which was so thrilling, the winner grabbed me in a huge bear hug when she was declared the winner.  I'll be back in February 2011 and hanging on the jumbo LED wall again.

4.  This was the first infomercial I had shot in awhile and it became my first in a series of four infomercials that I shot in 2010.  It was a great day on set with fitness expert, Jennifer Galardi.  If you want to see the final results, wait for me at 2 AM on your TV or click here.

5.  The Streamys "For Your Consideration" screenings were in full force in February as I covered the red carpet for Koldcast TV at the Fall of Kaden and Blue Movies showing.  Here I am with eventual Best Director nominee, Scott Brown, of Blue Movies.  You can see some of the footage from this evening here.

Come back tomorrow at Red Carpet Closet for a review of March 2010 with Atlanta, paparazzi photos, A Good Knight's Quest premiere and more!

Press Week at the LA Auto Show

It's that time of year again when the big automotive companies roll out their big eco-friendly debuts at the LA Auto Show.  It's no secret that I host a show for Toyota as you have seen photos over and over again on this blog here, here, and here, but I also get the opportunity to participate in press week.  This year, I was giddy because Toyota launched a new demonstration RAV4 EV partnership with Tesla.  If you aren't familiar with the CEO, Elon Musk, I encourage you to read this fascinating Wired magazine profile on him.  He's basically a rock star in the automotive industry:  he's young, he's rich, the ladies love him, and he made his fortune developing PayPal.  Elon is now rocking the automotive industry with electric vehicles.  It really was a dream come true for an alternative fuel vehicle geek like me....Elon Musk in person!

Check out a few other fun photos from my week.  If you are in the LA area, my shows begin today at the top of every hour through Sunday, November 28th.  Just look for me on the JumboTron at the Toyota Live stage.

This is what it is like to be surrounded by automotive paparrazzi.....

Don't tell anyone I ate a Mercedes cupcake.....

The new badging on the RAV4 EV demo vehicle:

Here it is!  My nerd brain is so happy to see more options for alternative fuel vehicles coming to market.  You do know I drive a hybrid, right?

My co-host drove a perfect game in the Toyota Star Safety System driving simulator.

Me......uh, not so much.  Stay away from me on the road!

Whoa!  Scary overhead lighting makes my hair look green.  Time to add some low lights the next time I sit down with my stylist.  Photo courtesy of Mingle Media TV.

Scenes from a Weekend at The State Fair of Texas

I have officially completed 18 days so far at the State Fair of Texas and I have to say, it is much easier the second time around.  I have to thank the weather for cooperating this year; gone are the fleeces, gloves, hats, and scarves from last year.  I can't believe I will be home in one week after a month in Texas! Catch a glimpse of my weekend in photos:

Here I am, eating the famous Fletcher's Corny Dog.  Now, the Fletcher Family claims they invented the corn dog.  I don't who invented it, but it's delicious.  Read the history of the corn dog here.

My co-host decided to hijack my iPhone and change my wallpaper to his lovely mug.  I decided that he must really want his photos published, so I tagged him on my private Facebook page.  Let me tell you, he really enjoyed that one.  Little does he know, he's on my blog too!

Here's where I get a little grumpy at the city of Dallas, DART, their transportation system, had a huge debacle last year during the UT/OU game with getting people to the fair and the game on time.  They did a great job at the game this year, however, this weekend was even busier than game weekend.  Did they learn their lesson?  Nope, here are the crowds waiting to get on an available train.  Sigh.

Larry at the ice cream stand is my best friend at the fair.  He kindly hooks me up with a vanilla soft serve every once in awhile.  Perfect for a hot summer day!  (By the way, notice my millions of freckles on my face!  I wear a hat and SPF 85 every day.  Geez!)

Happy 10th Birthday to the Toyota Prius--10.10.10!  My favorite car and probably one of the most innovative technological breakthroughs of the last decade.  This car was a game-changer back in 2000 when it was launched. Toyota hoped to sell about 12, 000 units that year.  Now, over a million Prius have been sold worldwide and over 650 MILLION gallons of gas have been saved.

Yes, I am so strong, I can hold up a Dodge Ram with only two hands.  We're that strong at Toyota.

Um, attractive picture of my nap.  Yes, this wound up on Facebook too, all thanks to my co-host, Matt Troyer.  Hey, it was a long weekend and I needed to recharge.  I hope your weekend was just as much fun!

2009 in Review: January

Here's a quick speed through of my year. I am going to try and post 5 pictures that represent each month of 2009 for me over the next 12 days. Ready? GO!

First day of 2009 working in San Diego where everything is shiny, bright, and new......

Off to CES 2009 where I presented the Pure HD Sound for one of my clients, LG Electronics...

One of my favorite topics? The Toyota Prius! Standing next to the 2010 Prius at the North American International Auto Show. It was the public's first look, but they couldn't touch it until May, but I got a chance to sit inside in January.

My two favorite audience members of all time at Toyota Live. They were so cute and one of them cried when she won a prize! My co-host and I posed for photos after the show.

While I travel for work A LOT, I also get to have fun too. After a long day at work, I played at the City Museum in St. Louis. Add this to your MUST DO list on your next visit to the city.
Coming tomorrow is a quick wrap-up of February.....Chicago, Oscar, my animals, and more!
