Who Are You Wearing?: Oscars 2013

It always takes a village to get me together for big red carpets, so here is a list of my team for Oscars 2013.  Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to get me to look my best at such an early hour. It isn't easy!

Here's a list of people I need to thank publicly:

Jewelry by Charles Winston--Charles and I go back to my ShopNBC days!

Makeup by Sara Hernandez

Skin Care by Marianne Kehoe Skin Studio

Mani/Pedi by Heather at Hands to Hold

Eyebrows by Sudi at Hands to Hold

A Sneak Peek At My Oscars Jewelry

Year three of Oscars Week begins!

Given the number of views from yesterday's post, you sure like to read about shoes. I gave you a glimpse at the Stuart Weitzman platform shoes I am planning on wearing on Sunday. It may change as my stylist, Roni B., is not 100% sold on that shoe just yet.  She wants 1/2 of an inch more height.  We will see what happens.

Yesterday, we picked out the final jewelry looks from Charles Winston. He has provided me jewelry over the last few years. You can see my 2011 look here and my 2012 look here. This year, we had to work with the beading on the dress.  It is much more dramatic, so the jewelry had to tell a different story than in years past. I don't want to give it all away, but I thought you might like to look at a piece or two.

I am wearing three rings this year. Only one of these rings made the edit, can you guess which one?

I tried this ring on early and even tweeted it yesterday. I was obsessed from the moment I saw it. This will definitely be on my hand on Sunday. The exciting thing is that I always get to keep one piece of jewelry after the Oscars each year. Can you guess which one I am already eyeing?

It was also a cold, wet morning on the red carpet. The red carpet has not been laid down yet. That should happen this morning, as long as the weather holds out.  We've had some rain in the last few days. The good news is that Sunday is expected to be sunny and hopefully, a little warm.

Yep, it was wet and ugly out there.

If you are interested in a little Oscar dance scoop, find out the names of the SYTYCD cast members who are performing on Sunday's show. It's a pretty good list.

The Friday Five: June 1st

Every time I have doubts about my retirement from the road, I wind up having a week like this:  crazy, busy, and right in the mix of entertainment news.  Ah, the universe always has a way of keeping you on your intended path.  Here's my Friday Five for this week:

1.  I Just Want My Pants Back:  This was a fun night.  I talked earlier this week about the efforts to save the MTV show and hopefully, the cast will find a new home.  We had so much fun talking about the show and the antics on set.  If you missed the live stream, you can find the rebroadcast here or below.  A big thanks to Gennefer Gross, the Streamin Garage crew, and my publicist, Melanie Marquez, for all of their efforts.

Hamming it up on the red carpet.

2.  Gracie Awards: I don't think there is any other event in Los Angeles that manages to gather such an impressive list of women in the media each and every year.  I was so excited to bring my niece to the event because there were a lot of wonderful role models on the red carpet that night.  Here is one of my favorite interviews from the evening with 2-time Oscar winner, Sally Field.  The woman is ballsy and she speaks her mind.  That is awesome. (Also, a big shout out to Valerie Blackburn, Chair of the Alliance of Women in Media and Market Controller for CBS Radio, for even knowing who I am and for the lovely compliment on my work. The interview is here.)

3.  Chris Hemsworth:  Need I say more? Here is my interview with him for Snow White and the Huntsman.  The feed on my end wasn't very good quality, but I was the one asking the questions on the other end for iVillage.  He and his wife had their first child less than 24 hours before, so there was a lot of good scoop in this interview.  Next up for me is the press junket for Rock of Ages this weekend and you know how excited I am about that movie!  You can read the accompanying article by my iVillage colleague, Ali Gray, here.

4.  Squaresville:  About a year and a half ago, I filmed a small cameo in a new web series called Squaresville awesome nerdy girls just trying to fit in.  I posted about the shoot and again when the production was in fundraising mode.  Well, the show is up and running and definitely worth a look.  See their first episode here.

5.  Charles Winston:  I always like to feature one fashion or accessory in my Friday Five and this week is no different.  At the 84th Annual Academy Awards, I was lucky enough to wear the jewelry of Charles Winston.  This year, he gifted me with the ring I wore on the red carpet.  I wanted to showcase it because it is the perfect complementary piece to the earrings I received from him last year.  I'm a lucky girl.  Thanks, Charles! Visit his site here for more gorgeous pieces from his collection.

I also met a new Aussie friend yesterday, Leanne from Deep Fried Fruit.  She had a few questions about dressing for the red carpet, so I think I am inspired to do a post about it soon.  Here is her article and the incredible Disney event she will be attending.

Also, I have my monthly appearance with my Cocktails and Conversation gals tomorrow morning at 5AM PT/8AM ET.  I know it is early for my West Coast pals, but , East Coast, join us here.  I will post the rebroadcast later in the day.  We will be discussing 50 Shades of Grey (oh boy!), my visit to the Good Luck, Charlie set, and the inside scoop on my Chris Hemsworth interview.

Who Are You Wearing: Oscars 2012

I have always said "it takes a village" to put me together for big awards shows and the 84th Annual Academy Awards were no exception. My team did an incredible job pulling together clothing, jewelry, and the right lip color for last Sunday.  Without them, I would have been on that red carpet in my yoga pants and Ugg Boots.  So, thank you to Team KB for making me look WAY better than I do in real life. Your early morning efforts were beyond appreciated.

Let's give kudos to them:

Stylist : Roni B
Hair : Lisa Cavalone
Make-Up : Carolina Groppa
Jewelry : Charles Winston (Rings, Bracelets)
Earrings: Swarovski Crystal
Shoes:  Guess (I've worn these a million times.)

Yes, my toes were blue to match my dress.

Getting Red Carpet Ready

I don't know how it is possible, but it is the night before the Oscars.  This week has flown by and I am sitting quietly on my couch trying to calm my nerves.  My team has assembled my wardrobe, makeup, jewelry, and hair look over the last several weeks.  I am so excited to see it all pulled together tomorrow morning as I sit back and start getting ready at 6:30 AM.  Yep, that's my call time.  It takes hours to get glamorous.  I've always said, it takes a village.......

Team KB hard at work.....Roni B and Charles Winston consulting over a few jewels.

This year we were fortunate to have my Oscars jeweler, Charles Winston,  in town to talk about red carpet looks and what we might see come Sunday.  Also, the infamous Roni B. talks about this year's Oscar look and how we pulled it all together. I'm glad we were able to do a fashion segment this year, so let's take a look at what it is all about........fashion and a few hints about what I am wearing.

Which ring did I choose?  Find out in the video above.

Awesome shot of Roni's store!

All About The Dress

Aryeh designed this dress and also THIS one that I wore to ITVFest 2010.
I received so many inquiries about this dress from the ElfQuest fan trailer premiere, so I figured that it merited its own post.  Many thanks to Roni B. for styling me and to her mom, Sonia, for making sure the dress fit just right. (I actually picked up the dress an hour before hair/makeup in a grocery store parking lot!)  If you haven't read my post about The Undergarments Edition, now would be a good time to do so.  I was taped and pastied within every inch of my décolletage.  It wasn't the night for wardrobe malfunctions when you are broadcasting live.

Here is all of the scoop on my outfit:

Dress:   Aryeh, $65, available at Roni B.
Shoes:  Guess, from 6 years ago!
Jewelry:  Bracelet, ring:  Aldo, from 4 years ago!
               Garnet Necklace:  Gift from Prague
Earrings: Gifted from Charles Winston, 14K White Gold 8mm Moissanite studs

Makeup:  Carolina Groppa

If you played along with my tongue-in-cheek poll last week of Who Wore It Best?  Here are the results:

I think you guys were just being nice because it is my site, but I love, love, love those who voted for "This poll is lame".  I'm glad someone has a sense of humor.  I honestly think the real winner is Chagoury Couture, they get free publicity any time someone wears their dress on the red carpet.  It's a no-lose situation.

Oscars Gifting Suite Goodies

Here's the real fun part of being a celebrity, FREE stuff.  The celebrities are offered everything from vacations to watches to a year supply of gum.  It's nice being famous because they suddenly don't have to spend any money, even though they are earning a lot of money.  For the rest of us, we have to scrimp and save for the coveted items, but I am here to feature a couple of affordable options that stood out last week in the gifting suites.

Enjoying my Red Velvet Cookie at the GBK Gifting Suite.

1. Cookies for a Koz:  Roberta Wilson created a cookie company in honor of her late mother, Audrey Koz, who made the world's best chocolate chip cookie. The flavors range from the conventional oatmeal raisin to the absolutely divine red velvet or the white chocolate raspberry cookie.  The cookies have a crisp edge with a soft, chewy center, just the way a cookie should taste. You will also feel good about your purchase because 10% of the proceeds go to the Starlight Children's Foundation.  They make great gifts with a Baker's Dozen going for $19.95.

2.  Neal's Yard Remedies: This line of organic skin care really walks the walk and talks the talk:  no silicones, no parabens, no animal testing. The line is based out of England and only available here in the US via consultants, but it is worth it.  Each product smells like the aromatherapy spa you pay hundreds of dollars to go to.  Well, you can bring the spa to you with this line of products and know that you are investing in a company who believes in the mantra of reduce, reuse, recycle.  Psst, there is a sale going on now.

3. Two Cosmetics:  This company was founded by two sisters who believe everything is better in twos:  "two eyes, two lips, two lovers".  Their colors are fun and it's another line that won't break the bank.  You can grab a couple of fun shades of eyeshadow and slip them right into your purse. There is no need to worry about a brush since the case includes a small brush for on-the-go touch ups. Eyeshadows:  $6.50/each.

Running around Hollywood and Highland with my new etoix T-shirt.

4. etoix T-shirts: The etoix line is made in the USA and they are known for their tie-dyed look.  The shirts are soft, comfy, and stretchy, exactly the type of Tee perfect to dress up or down for any occasion. The line also offers leggings for mixing and matching in your wardrobe.  T-shirts and leggings all under $30.

5. Charles Winston earrings:  This collection of earrings is created from Moissanite, which is also known as silicon carbonbide.  They are believed to have been formed from a meteorite, so it is not a laboratory formed stone.  It has the fire and brilliance you want from a topnotch diamond without the astronomical sticker price.  These will be your go-to earrings for everything.  I have them in 8mm rounds, but they are available in smaller sizes and at a lower price point,  the perfect additional to your jewelry wardrobe when you are treating yourself.  A 3.5mm White Gold pair of earrings starts at $127.95.

Disclosure:  All of these items were given to me gratis during Oscars Week.  None of the vendors asked me to review their products.  This post was done on my own accord because I really enjoyed the products/items.  Please direct any further questions here.

Who Are You Wearing?

I received so many questions about my outfit and my overall look, so here is the entire rundown.  I joked that it took a village to put me together, but I wasn't kidding.  I am so grateful to the team that assisted me, not only for their time and patience, but for really helping me shine on Oscar Sunday.

Stylist:  Roni Binshtock:  You know I talk about her all of the time, but her talents are immense and she was with me every step of the way.  She even made a last minute decision to bring me a stunning gray Sans Souci wrap that I wore through most of my red carpet interviews. (It was cold!)

Hair: Ozlem Dalgic:  She has done my hair now for two Academy Award shows and the DGA Awards.  No one does it better.

Makeup:  Carolina Groppa:  This gal has held me together for the last month and I don't know what I would do without her.  (Thanks, Bonnie Gillespie!)  My makeup and lashes held for a marathon 14 hours and that is impressive in my book.

Dress #2 outside of the after-Oscar party at the Polo Lounge.

Dress:  Chagoury Couture:  Gilbert Chagoury and Marco D'Angelo loaned me the most beautiful gown with such delicate beadwork on the flower.  It fit me like a glove, I felt like a million bucks, and it had two front pockets that added to the comfort of the gown.  After the show, I was able to change into a short dress with draping and incredible trimming on the sleeve and strap.  Thank you, gentlemen!

Even in a goofy iPhone shot, that Charles Winston ring is divine.

My beautiful Charles Winston bracelet to accessorize my gown.

And don't forget my Charles Winston earrings!

Jewelry:  Charles Winston: I worked with Charles Winston on air back in my ShopNBC days.  I emailed him asking to borrow jewelry.  He immediately said "yes' and he and his partner, Sandy McMillan, made sure I had everything I needed and more.  The cocktail ring alone drew so many compliments, I knew I made the right choice in contacting Charles.

A HUGE THANK YOU to the entire team because I could not have done it without you.  Your contributions to my big night were immeasurable.

Just a few more photos that show the incredible beadwork on my Chagoury Couture gown.....

2011 Oscars, Day 5

Hanging on the red carpet with members of the US Military at Cinema City Film Festival

Yesterday was a tough one.  I think my Oscars Week madness officially took its toll, I was dragging my tail all day.  After a good night's sleep though, I am rarin' to go!  I want to kick off today with answering the big question of my week:  "Where can we see you on Oscar Sunday?"  Great question!  Now hear are all of the answers:

     1. Before, During, and After the Oscars:  I will be giving live updates via Twitter from getting ready to the last party of the night.  You do not have to sign up for Twitter to follow my updates, my page is public.  Just click on this link.

    2. During the Oscars: Once the show begins, I will be backstage in the interview room as the winners come through to talk about their big win.  I will continue to post pictures and videos from the red carpet and I will be live blogging throughout the night right here at Red Carpet Closet!

I hope you will all join me.  Feel free to ask questions either via Twitter or in the comments section below.  I will do my best to answer them throughout the event.

Interviewing Cheryl Cecchetto about the Governor's Ball design.

Wolfgang Puck cooks and he talks....a lot!

As for yesterday's coverage, I filmed my daily video on my couch at the end of the day which really was the perfect way to end a rainy day in LA.  There's lots of fun news in it and a preview of some of the jewelry I tried on for my dress, so be sure to check it out:

I am also catching you up on a few photos and videos from the past week from the Cinema City International Film Festival to my fun day eating with Wolfgang Puck and the rest of the creative team for the Governor's Ball.  Let me take you Behind the Red Carpet:

At Cinema City International Film Festival where I ask:  Who is your favorite Oscar pick this year?

And at the Food and Beverage Preview with Wolfgang Puck:

I liked that Silver Screen Punch a little too much.

Tom Sizemore is back and healthy.  I hope we see him acting versus acting out on Celebrity Rehab. He was a very fun interview.  Stay healthy, Tom!
