Women's Health Magazine Are You Game Photos: NY 2011

I told you I was going to be working backwards this week on this blog.  So, last Sunday was my Emmys event in LA, but on Saturday, I was in NYC for the final Women's Health Magazine Are You Game? event of 2011.  It is always one of my favorite events that I host all year with a day filled with fitness, fashion, food, and freebies.  Everyone always has such a fun day and this year in NY, I had the opportunity to hit the stage with DJ Chela who spun some amazing tunes at the South Street Seaport.  The area was packed with fitness enthusiasts and tourists who stumbled upon the event and got a bonus....a glimpse at Louis Van Amstel of DWTS teaching his LaBlast dance class.  If you are in NY or Chicago, be sure to look for the event next summer and show off your strong, sexy body.

Are You Game, Chicago?

Hosting last year's fashion show or am I showing a little leg?

It's that time of year again when I head to Chicago to emcee Women's Health Magazine's annual event, Are You Game?  It is one of my favorite jobs all year because I get to hit the beach on Lake Michigan and enjoy a day designed specifically for women.  It's a fun day filled with fitness, fashion, food, and freebies!  The sponsors that come out to participate bring their latest fitness products to check out, so look for Athleta, Oakley, PUMA, Crunch, and more.  As in previous years, you won't want to miss the fitness classes and the opportunity to do yoga, dance, and my favorite, Masala Bhangra outside on a beautiful day. (Fitness schedule is here.) This year's Beneficiary is DetermiNation, a program created by the American Cancer Society.  It is a series of endurance events and training programs featuring marathons and triathlons to help fight cancer.   So, I hope to see you out there sweating with me, burning a few calories, and meeting a few new friends.  Hey, Chicago, Are You Game?

            10AM-4PM

Year in Review: July 2010

I was looking through my calendar and my photos from July 2010 and I was happy to see that I took some time to relax.  I am really going to try and make that a priority for 2011...maybe 2/3 work and 1/3 personal. I think that is a good start since my life last year was 90% work and 10% play.  Here's to New Year's Resolutions!

1. While in Chicago for Women's Health Magazine's annual Are You Game?, I had a chance to hang with one of my favorite cousins, Michael. He's been my little buddy ever since the day he was born.  Awwww......

2.  I was invited by Lexus Dark Ride to the opening of SPiN Hollywood at the Mondrian Hotel.  It was an evening of A-listers like Susan Sarandon and an evening of D-listers like Michael Lohan who arrived at the party on the same exact day his daughter, Lindsay, went to jail.  Ponder that thought for a moment.  Anyway, I had a great night laughing until my stomach hurt with my pal, Maria.

3. On the set of one of my favorite live online shows, Stupid for Movies, hosted by Wade Major and Mark Keizer, and created by my pal, Mike Rotman.  I was lucky enough to be asked to do a guest spot where I had the opportunity to bring in a film you might have missed. Given my love for Bob Fosse, All That Jazz was my pick.  I like to think I was ahead of the latest dance movie trend.  If you love Black Swan, do yourself a favor and watch Fosse's incredible film.  Also, I will hopefully be helping out on SFM during Awards Season in 2011, but I will keep you posted about any possible upcoming appearances.

4.  You know how much I love my Prius, well, you are going to get really tired of me once the 2012 PHV Prius comes out.  Here I am at the Plug-In Conference in San Jose.

5.  The ITVFest Opening Night Gala continues to be one of the hottest parties in Web TV each summer.  Here are a few photos from my red carpet coverage where I hugged.....everyone and check out the red carpet interviews with Mingle Media TV here.

(Yes, that is James Denton of Desperate Housewives. Swoon.)

Weekly Wrap-Up

While you are reading this, I am on a plane to NYC to prep for Are You Game? with Women's Health Magazine.  If you would like to attend this fantastic event tomorrow, check out yesterday's post with all of the pertinent information.  I even did a little Versa Tan for the event so no one would be scared by my pasty white legs.  Hey, a girl has to preserve her skin, so a little spray tan cheating every once in awhile is in order.
TOMS:  Ash Canvas Women's Wedges:  $69
Also, I have two new partners aboard Red Carpet Closet.  First up, is the amazing TOMS shoes.  I know many of you are familiar with their One for One campaign. For each pair of TOMS shoes purchased, the company matches a pair of shoes to a child in need.  It's an incredible program with a plethora of stylish shoes, especially those killer wedges, all at affordable prices.  For those of you who are looking to purchase a pair, I have a coupon code for Red Carpet Closet readers.  Click on the link on the upper right hand corner of this page and type in THEFIRE upon checkout.  You will receive $5 off your purchase.
e.l.f. Cosmetics:  Mineral Foundation:  $5
Another new partner to this site is e.l.f. Cosmetics.  They have long been supporters of my show, The Web Files, as they sponsor all of the makeup I wear on-camera.  I have become obsessed with their mineral makeup line that is not only affordable, but the same high-quality of the other mineral brands.  My favorite product in the line is Foundation in my shade of Fair.  It actually replaced my beloved Stila Cosmetics Illuminating Liquid Foundation which is a lot more expensive and offers a lot less natural coverage.  For $5, this e.l.f. product has it all!  For those of you looking to replenish your makeup bag for fall, click on the link on this page and then use the code SAVINGSELF at checkout for 50% off up to $15. Now, that's a deal!

If you have been following my show, The Web Files, over the past year, you may have watched an interview with the crew of Camera Obscura.  The show never found a distributor, until now.  I am proud to say that Dailymotion has picked up the series just in time for Halloween.  If you are a Jack Klugman fan, you are in for a real treat.  Check out the interview with a insider's look at special FX movie monster makeup with Jeff Farley.  If you want a more in-depth look at the episode, here is a post I wrote about the show last year.  Congratulations to Show Creator, Drew Daywalt!

Next week brings a month long trip to Dallas for the State Fair of Texas.  For my Dallas readers, here is where you will find me, every day on the hour.  I hope to meet a lot of you there and try this year's fried delicacy, Deep-Fried Beer.

Have a great weekend!  I will see you Monday at Red Carpet Closet.

PS For those of you who have entered to win tickets to the Web TV Prom, the contest has been extended to Thursday, September 30th at 11:59 PM PST.  The winner will be announced on Friday, October 1st at 9 AM PST.  The prom has rescheduled for Wednesday, October 20th.  Please mark your calendars for this fantastic charitable event!

Hey, NYC, Are You Game?

It's that time again, Ladies; time to get into shape.  I will be in NYC this Saturday, September 18th for my annual Are You Game, New York edition.  It is my second year emceeing all of the events and the fashion shows sponsored by Women's Health Magazine.  It is one of my favorite gigs all year:  food, fashion, fitness, freebies, and fun all rolled into one.  We had a great time at the Chicago event in July, so let's wrap it up with even more fun NY-style.  If you are planning on attending, please make time for Sarina Jain's Masala Bhangra Workout on the main stage at 2:45 PM.  This is one of the most inspiring and uplifting classes I have ever taken.  Make sure you stop by and say "hi" to me over by the DJ booth or after the fashion show.  I hope to see you Saturday, and remember, 50% of the entrance fee proceeds benefit The FEED Foundation.  Here is a list of Saturday's events:

Friday Wrap-Up

Even though I spent half of the week sick in bed, here's what happened this week.  Oh, and you do have some fun homework for this blistering hot weekend:

Sunday:  Chicago: Women's Health Magazine: Are You Game?:
I kicked off my second year as host at Women's Health Magazine's annual fitness extravaganza.  It was a perfect day on North Avenue Beach in Chicago filled with fitness, fashion, food, and free stuff!  My favorite part of the day was introducing Sarina Jain, creator of the Masala Bhangra workout.  It was incredible to watch everyone dance in the sand with their scarves to this upbeat, enthusiastic interpretation of Indian dance straight from Bollywood.  Hey,NYC, you will have your chance to experience this on September 18th, don't miss it!
Wednesday:  The Web Files Buzz, Episode 7:
Our 7th Buzz episode launched on Wednesday and it features the latest in technology for web series:  3D with Safety Geeks:SVI and a 360 degree camera by Social Animal.  Just like the film industry, these techniques are going to be game changers for the web series industry.  Check out the episode:

Wednesday:  MoreWireLess brought to you by Broadcom:
This introduction to Bluetooth continues with Episode 5 and gives advice on wireless tethering to your PC.  It may seem a little basic to my fellow tech nerds, but my mom is learning a lot about the technology.  Oh, and I finally change my shirt--out with the hot pink, in with the baby pink!

Thursday:  Stupid for Movies: Try This at Home:
Okay, here's your homework assignment:  On Thursday, July 22nd, I will be appearing on Stupid for Movies:  Try This at Home segment.  I picked a movie this week and I will be on their show next week at 8PM PST to discuss it with LA Film Critics Association gurus, Mark Keizer and Wade Major.  We featured them on The Web Files in May and their film knowledge never ceases to amaze me.  It's also a fun, interactive show, so watch my pick, and then Skype in or join the chat room to discuss the film.  Here's the announcement at the 1:00:30 mark.  If you're too lazy to watch, click on the comments button below where I will write it in for you. So, please watch because my pick has it all: music, dance, sex, nudity, and a hot orgy!  That's right, even though it is a musical, I still took care of the men out there with my pick.

Friday:  Something Exciting is Coming!:
Earlier in the week, I announced that "Something Exciting is Coming" to Red Carpet Closet.  I can't announce the details until August 10th, but to get on the inside track and find out first, register here to be eligible to win a prize.  I will have a lot coming your way soon from hair, makeup, shoes, accessories, fashions, movies--everything you would expect in Red Carpet Closet.  That's just a little clue for you to tide you over.  Have a great weekend, stay cool, watch the flick, and we will see you on Monday at Red Carpet Closet.

Women's Health Magazine: Are you Game?

Hey Everyone,
I am back from crisscrossing the country twice last week. I am sitting inside on the couch today which really isn't a good endorsement for the event I hosted for Women's Health Magazine in NYC yesterday. It was a fantastic, fun, and FREE day for women to enjoy fitness classes, makeovers, massages, and pick up some sample products. The weather could not have been better as thousands turned out to enjoy the activities. I also emceed the 3 fashions shows with the gorgeous workout looks from ASICS, Champion, and Oakley. I was surprised at how important recycled fabrics have become to the workout industry. I love that eco-friendly element.

I was able to sample some of the products as ASICS gave me two pairs of amazing sneakers and Oakley generously donated a pair of sunglasses to my collection. The day is full of non-stop fun and our DJs, Sugar Ray and Tim Martell, kept me dancing all day. Oh, and I even managed to do a backflip on the Euro-Bungee, broke a nail in the process, and then had Maybelline take care of it 5 minutes later since they were offering free manicures. That's how GOOD an event it was! (OH, and Edy's Cookies and Cream Frozen Yogurt was delicious too!)
Now, if you live in Chicago, we are headed there next week on July 18th. Check out all of the info here: Women's Health Magazine. So, be sure to stop by and say "hi"!

Reporting Live from my couch in Los Angeles,
kb

PS Enjoy the photos of me on the Euro-Bungee. What I do want to know is what is going on in the photo with the two women. Is it circus, yoga, stretching? Comment away and let me know.
