Fashion Fridays: New Era Caps

Back in September during Emmys Week, I had the opportunity to take a look backstage at the official presenters lounge.  I was introduced to so many cool products, but I was definitely drawn to New Era Caps.  It's no secret that I love my hats, particularly the fedora.  You can see my hat here in Paris, in Munich, and even in Prague.

Well, a few weeks ago a package arrived at my door with a couple of goodies for a hat fan like me.  They sent me an awesome black fedora that is comfortable and well-constructed, so it's the perfect addition to my series of fedoras and travel hats.

They also sent this Boston gal a cap that is perfect for so many reasons...my favorite team:  The Boston Celtics!  Shhhh, please do not tell anyone as I am living in LA and in Lakers territory.  I know I need to mold the lid, but I cannot wait to hit the trails and wear the hat on my next hike.

Now, if they only carried my latest obsession that is carrying over from Halloween...kitty ears!

You can check out my Emmys gifting suite article here on Starpulse and see the latest inventory at New Era Caps on their website.

Are you a hat person?  Let me know what your favorite type of hat is!

Twilight Fans:  I am doing a fan chat today at 4pm PT/7pm ET with Twilight Saga:  Breaking Dawn, Part 2 star, Marisa Quinn, who plays Huilen. Come join me on Spreecast for the inside scoop on the hottest movie of the saga.  Link is here for the fan chat:  Spreecast

Disclosure:  The hats were compliments of New Era Caps.  All opinions are my own.

November: Monthly Wrap-Up

This has become one of my favorite segments of my blog each month.  I love to see what you have been reading and what Google searches bring people to Red Carpet Closet.  It adds a lot of comedy and hilarity to my day.  So, let's catch up on the Top 5 Most Absurd Searches for November 2010:

1.  "Are there camps like Stagedoor Manor cheaper?":  In one simple word:  Nope.  I attended Stagedoor Manor two decades ago and it is an experience that can only be replicated at Stagedoor Manor.  It was expensive then and it is expensive now.  Check into financial aid or scholarships because you are one lucky kid if you get to attend even one Stagedoor camp session.  Don't believe me? Here's what I have to say about the musical theatre camp twenty years later.

2.  "How tall is Olga Kay?":  Okay, I get it.  You like Olga Kay.  I do too. She's petite.  Maybe 5'4"?  Olga, help me out here.  Your fans want to know A LOT about you.  Here's another Olga piece I wrote.  **Update**:  Olga is 5'1".  Phew, so glad I could bring you that breaking news.  Thanks, Olga!

3.  "Term for free goodies given to celeb winners":  Um, that would be free goodies or gift baskets or gifting suites.  I guess you want to see my Emmy gifting suite coverage for Mingle Media TV?  It's here, here, here, and here.

4.  "What would Rachel Zoe use instead of a strapless bra for support?":  Wow,WWJD has been replaced by WWRZD?  Jesus needs a reality TV show because obviously RZ is hot.  Here are some great tips for your undergarments on the red carpet, ladies.

5.  "Old Stiletto Dick Van Patten":  I cannot even begin to fathom what you were looking for here.  Dick Van Patten is the dad from Eight is Enough.  I doubt he wears stilettos, especially old ones, but thanks for the laugh.  Here are some of my favorite stilettos for your shoe viewing pleasure.

Well, that's it for this month.  I cannot wait to do my favorite searches for 2010.  I am sure there are a few winners in there.  Keep up the Google searching because it keeps up the laughter on my end.

Emmys 2010: The Finale

We have finally reached the end of Emmys Weekend event coverage.  Phew.  It was a busy few days and it took almost an entire week for me to share all of the pictures.  Many have you asked about the interview and where you can see them.  Once they are edited and ready for viewing, I will post them and the appropriate links for you.  Our editor is hard at work as we speak as he has a ton of footage to attend to.

Now, let's get down to the fun stuff:  photos from the last red carpet event last weekend.  It was the Reality Cares Achievement Awards at The Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive and yes, we spent a lot of time here over the course of two days.  The honorees that night included Whitney Port of The City, the executive producers from The Amazing Race, and Carrie Ann Inaba from Dancing With The Stars.  Carrie Ann wasn't able to attend, but we got a strong list of reality show participants that evening.
Me and E!'s Michael Yo
Michael Yo was awesome, sweet and he dished on Paris Hilton's arrest that day for cocaine possession.  That's my kind of juicy interview.  I can't wait to post this video for you.  I should have it for you next week.  Stay tuned.
Whitney Port from The City
I was a huge fan of The Hills during the first couple of seasons, so it was fun to interview Whitney Port.  She has become quite the entrepreneur with her fashion line, Whitney Eve.   She looked stunning with a short, flapper-inspired dress and soft waves in her purposely messy updo. The girl is tall and she was wearing four inch heels to boot, so I looked right into her cleavage while I was talking to her.  I couldn't stop staring at her boobs.  It was a very strange situation to be stuck in, but hey, her décolletage looked good.  It was a pretty funny moment for me and JD, who was behind the camera watching it all.
Roxy Olin from The City
With an amazing acting lineage and a pretty face to boot, Roxy was there to present the award to her pal, Whitney.  She was charming during our short interview.  Next time, I will try and get the scoop on her parents, Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig, and the details of this season's Brothers and Sisters, which looks to be a bloodbath of cast cuts after last season's finale.
Jason Davis.....famous for nothing...or Celebrity Rehab.

I just call it like I see it, I'm not sure why he walked the red carpet and he didn't have much to say.  If you want to read about Jason, here you go.
Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race
Here's where the fun begins!  Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race popped onto the red carpet to help honor the show's Executive Producers, Bertram van Muster and Elise Doganieri. As a fan of The Amazing Race and one who has always wanted to get "PHILiminated" at the check-in point, it was pretty awesome to meet him. He was a super chatty interview.  I talked to him alone, then with his producers, and then with the CBS publicist.  At that point, the Reality Cares publicist asked me to wrap up the interview, I was hogging him. Even after I tried to finish the interview, he kept talking.  It was definitely a first.  I am usually begging people to talk, instead, Phil gave us a ton of material to work with.
Chatting on and on and on......
Finally, we were done and it was time to have fun.  Here's the elusive man behind the camera, JD Piche.   We never have fun together as you can see from the photos.  After we finished mugging for the camera, look who jumped into frame. Oh yeah, Phil. Sweet. I do think he's delicious, so I certainly didn't mind.

Weekly Wrap-Up

It's that time to wrap up the week and call it a Friday.  This will be a shorter post since I have been on a job all week to kick off a new season of one of my favorite gigs.  I found out that my first location with be at the State Fair of Texas again this year, so expect a lot of posts like this.  I don't expect Oprah to show up this year though, but the food promises to be a plethora of gastronomic delights and aches.  Let's wrap it up:

Monday:  I spent the entire week in Huntington Beach working really hard and presenting on advanced technology for 2012.  Yes, I already know what some of you may be driving in two years, but it was really hard to focus when you had a view like this:

Tuesday:  The always inspirational and kind Mark Gantt was featured in an article by Buzz Edition about his journey with The Bannen Way.  The Web Files interview with Mark and his co-creator, Jesse Warren, was also a part of the piece.  Mark's story really is a fascinating one and a true tale of taking charge of your career and creating opportunities.  Buzz Edition article.

Wednesday: MoreWireLess sponsored by Broadcom continues to entertain and delight. (I'm hilarious at 5:30 in the morning!)  This episode features the crowd pleaser, "How to Connect a Bluetooth Headset".  Thanks for your continued support for this series:

Friday:  Don't forget to watch my Tuesday coverage for Dance Channel TV of the blink/drEam red carpet with all of your SYTYCD and ABDC favorites. I know you are a true dance fan if you know those show acronyms.  Let me know what you think of the video piece.

Finally, it's the beginning of Emmys weekend for me. I am heading back to LA to hit the red carpet and give you the scoop on all of the latest fashions at the parties and a behind the scenes look at those amazing gifting suites. What is it like to be a celebrity and have people giving you free stuff just for showing up?  Well, I will let you know, so look for that feature next week here at Red Carpet Closet.
Have a great weekend.  See you on Monday!

PS If you can't wait until my Emmys Weekend post on Monday, be sure to follow me on Twitter.  I will be tweeting 140 characters and photos all weekend.

Mad Men Monday

I know, I know, Mondays are not usually anyone's favorite day of the week, but I have a full week of excitement planned.  First of all, it's Emmys Week here in LA.  This weekend, I will be covering some of the gifting suites and Emmys festivities with Mingle Media TV.  I haven't been to a gifting suite before, so I want to see how elaborate these events are.  Can you imagine being a celebrity who just has to walk in and pick out whatever they want?  Free vacation to Cabo?  Okay, it's yours.  Free Ray-Bans?  If I must.  New Marc Jacobs boots for free?  Sign me up!  So, look for that video footage after the Emmys as we go behind the scenes of what they are really like.  I received my tip sheet for one of them (Tip Sheet:  A list of celeb faces/quick bio for media so they know who is attending the event.) and I was thrilled to see that Bryan Batt from Mad Men is on the list.  If you are a fan of the show, you know that he played Salvatore Romano for the first three seasons.  I really don't understand why they didn't continue with his storyline since I consider it to be an important one.  Being gay in the early 60's was a huge taboo and I wanted to see how that issue played out in his marriage and at work.  So, I am officially starting my campaign to bring Sal back to the show and I just might let Mr. Batt know on Saturday.
Bryan Batt AKA Salvatore Romano on Mad Men

If you are watching Mad Men, you know this season has been a big one for Kiernan Shipka who plays Sally Draper.  I was fortunate enough to have interviewed her at the Saturn Awards earlier this summer.  She is just as amazing in person as she is onscreen.   Since I work the red carpet often, it's nice to see kids be able to speak without having memorized lines about their show, role, and what they like to do. Sometimes the publicists give them little "speeches" and they sound like robots (I'm talking to you, Disney!).

For those of you in LA, be sure to see the FREE exhibit at FIDM where they are honoring some of the best in costume design from the shows Glee, The Tudors, and Mad Men.  You will be able to see a retrospective of the Emmy-nominated costumes through September 4th.  It is a stop you must make if you are interested in the incredible work that is being done with wardrobe on screen these days.  The exhibit is open from 10AM-4PM, Tuesday-Saturday.

Mad Men Collection by Janie Bryant on QVC , September 29th.

Finally, if you want to take Mad Men to a whole other level and wear those fashions, Mad Men designs are coming to QVC in September. Emmy-nominated costume designer, Katherine Jane Bryant AKA Janie Bryant, will bring viewers her inspirations from the show to the home retailing giant on September 29th.  It should be a great way to style up your fall wardrobe with a vintage look derived from the show.  According to InStyle Magazine, you will find "The 20-piece collection, which reflects the 1960s era, includes a reversible coat, leopard-print purse and faux fur boleros and capelets. Prices range from $26 for jewelry to $138 for coats."  I don't know about you, but I am anxious to take a closer look at the collection.  If you think home shopping channels aren't for you, then you might want to head on over to QVC.com  and see what they are offering these days.  I think you might recognize a few designers......Isaac Mizrahi, BCBG, Jessica Simpson (Her shoe line is to die for lately!), Marc Bouwer, and Erica Davies (I wore her dress to the Oscars in 2007.)  Maybe I am biased, but QVC isn't such a bad place to shop.

Have a great week, everyone.  Let me know what questions you have about gifting suites in the comment section below.  I will try and get those questions answered for you this weekend.
