Public Television Quality Workshop in Boston on November 3/4

Don’t miss your chance to learn from several luminaries from the world of television and film production.  WGBH is hosting the Public Television Quality Workshop on Wed, 11/3 and Thurs, 11/4. This two-day, $50 seminar is the third in a series of five being given around the country that are designed to provide training for PBS producers in order to improve the viewing experience for the PBS audience.

The goal of these workshops is to help people who produce programs for PBS understand how they can improve the technical quality of what they deliver.  Sessions are designed to focus on every part of the production, post-production and distribution process.

Highlights include: a keynote lunch session “The Great Frame Rate Debate” including Doug Trumbull, who produced special effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Blade Runner; Mark Schubin, Emmy-Award winning Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Fellow; and Larry Thorpe from Canon USA.  Another keynote features FRONTLINE’s Mike Kirk, winner of the Peabody Award, the duPont-Columbia Award, and 10 Emmys (accompanied by his longtime director of photography Ben McCoy, and editor Chad Ervin), presenting “The Secret Sauce: Creating Documentaries to Remember.”

Other session topics include file-based workflows, field audio acquisition, HD camera and lens selection, aspect ratio and image conversion, image sizing, bit-management, a full day editing track, and a camera workshop.
